Best Cheeses of the World

Some of the Best Cheeses of the World come from some of the most surprising places. Some are notably tangy. Others are soft and sweet. Maybe you prefer something in between? So, who has the Best Cheeses of the World?

In the first place, is there really such a thing as a best cheese in the world? We’re not too sure about that. Cheese making is a Craft. It is an Art in a category all its own. For my tastes, it is almost impossible for me to pick just one as my favorite.

For one reason, cheese is incredibly versatile. From super soft fresh mozzarellas to the funkiest of Stilton to creamy and nutty Gouda, there’s just too much going on to call one better than another. Still, there are cheeses that transcend culture and place to become almost universally beloved. The cream of a creamy crop. We might soon be able to get back on that Nacho Train.

Hence, we figured it was high time to find out which cheese people truly love most. So we popped over to Ranker to find out what kinds of cheese people are really into. They took a poll nearly 75,000 votes deep to get a good cross section of people’s individual tastes and preferences.

I am an honorary Wisconsin Cheesehead. (No, not a Packer fan. I just love their cheese). Did your favorite cheese make the cut? You’re going to have to scroll down to find out.

After consulting several lists and sources, a definite pattern began to develop. It seems that the same 3 cheeses consistently led each list. My absolute favorite, Sharp Cheddar dominated most lists. It was closely followed by Mozzarella and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Now that’s Italian!

However, no list would be complete if we didn’t include that other super-popular cheese, Monterey Jack… This California specialty was invented by monks who missed their European cheese from back in the old country — usually Spain. The semi-soft, white cow’s milk cheese has become a major player on the American cheese market. It has become a major player and a staple in the diets of the  Tex-Mex culinary world. Additional choices and varying styles range from Pepper Jack to Colby and beyond.

Certainly, the list of exquisite cheeses from around the World is too extensive to do them the culinary justice that they deserve. It is a personal matter for which everyone needs to decide for themselves and their own individual taste preferences.

One of the best ways for me to decide was by exploring how these cheeses paired with another splendid indulgence, namely fine wines. The endless combinations give me the ability to periodically explore the delights of the palate without experiencing the same taste sensation twice. (Unless I want to, of course).

So, my discovery of the Wine Ambassador Wine of the Month Club was a match made in Heaven. Every month, they ship me four bottles of some of the best wines from the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Although I do not hold a Master Sommelier Diploma, the people who choose my wines do.
